Omega-3 Review – How Safe and Effective is it?

The array of health supplements available in the market these days is so vast, it seems to rival the size of the universe. There are different topics that people may look into, skin care, digestive remedies, weight management being popular examples. These different topics have so many products within them that each topic seems to be a star system. Somewhere one of these star systems are Omega-3 fatty acids.

These fatty acids have become popular in recent years over the potential health benefits that they carry with them. Unlike other substances that are only found in diet pills, Omega-3s can be found naturally occurring in foods. The foods that this substance is found most abundant in, generally pertain to sea creatures such as salmon, oysters, mackerel, halibut and others. Despite this, there are other sources where Omega-3s may be found. This makes it much more dynamic than other ersatz substances that may be only produced in laboratories and under the supervision of scientific experts.

So can this aid in the struggle to expel excess weight from the body? The following article will break it down.

What is it?

Omega-3 fatty acids are a substance that is important for the metabolic rate to run sufficiently. The two kinds that make this up are known as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). These are both known to blockade the heart from harmful disorders and complications. Both of these can be found in fish.

While these are both found in fish, there is another kind of Omega-3 that is found in plants. That is known as alpha-linoleic acid (ALA). Some people may get confused and think they all are generally the same, however this is a false premise to believe. The prosperity in health that people usually associate with  Omega-3s are with DHA and EHA. It is true that the body does convert ALA into these other two kinds of acids, but it does so at a ratio so low, you wouldn’t notice the effect as well.

The benefits of  Omega-3s are what draws people to buy products and supplements with it. Studies have shown that  Omega-3s reduce the risk of people developing memory related disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. Other maladies such as ADHD, depression and arthritis are also known to have their treatments lie in this substance.

EDITOR'S TIP: Combine this supplement with a proven fat burner such as Sletrokor for better results.

Furthermore there are also studies that suggest that ingesting Omega-3s may also aid in capsizing high cholesterol levels, which in turn benefits heart health as well. While these are all great, I could not find much evidence that this is known to support with ridding the body of extra pounds.

Who makes it?

This substance is known to occur naturally in animals as well as plants. The animals that it is known to be found in include herring, tuna, lake trout, anchovies, sardines and salmon, preferably the kind that is found in the wild, as it is known to have more  Omega-3s. Plants that this substance is included in are flax seed hemp and chia.

Moreover, there are a plethora of companies that have used  Omega-3s in either an ingredient lineup of one of their products, or by itself as a standalone supplement. An abridged list of these companies include Nutrigold, Nature Made, Nordic Naturals, Puritan’s Pride and I.Q. Essentials.

Does Omega-3 work?

While there are obvious benefits to adding  Omega-3s to your diet, it is important to remember what you are using it for. If you want to improve your brain health or your emotional well being, this may indeed support those causes. Sinking cholesterol levels is something else that will be positively effected by using this substance. Top Rated Products may also lower high cholesterol levels.

However in spite of the research I did on this substance, I was not able to find how it is in any way related to weight loss. There was a single website that I saw that made a relation to it, but being that this website is trying to sell a product, it made me think that the writer was saying that  Omega-3s are related to weight loss for marketing purposes, not really because it actually is.

There are other companies that may try to tie this into weight management because when people think of dropping down a few pants sizes, things such as cholesterol seem to be related. While it may sound like a direct relation, it’s not as clear a relation as you may think. People in general don’t realize this however and will make the false assumption anyway. There are companies that are shrewd enough to play upon this.

This is an example of a kind of tactic that companies that product Top Rated Products would never employ.

Omega-3 Dosage

Depending on what your goal is, the amount of Omega-3s that you take varies. For hypertension 4 grams of fish oil a day. For high triglycerides, 1-4 grams a day while asthma needs 7.3-11.5 grams of DHA and 17-26.8 grams of EHA.

Are there potential side effects?

Although Omega-3s are widely regarded for their health benefits, these fatty acids are not without their drawbacks. The most common negative reactions people experience from this are diarrhea and stomach discomfort. When the dosage of Omega-3s are increased these ailments have the potential to worsen.

For some people with pre-existing health conditions, it is possible for high levels of Omega-3s to increase the risk of hemorrhagic stroke. These conditions include high LDL cholesterol levels, diabetes, pregnancy and people who are at a heightened risk of bleeding. Additionally, this may have negative interactions with certain kinds of drugs, such as anti-inflammatory painkillers, blood thinners and supplements such as ginkgo biloba and anti-platelet drugs.

Conclusion

In today’s world, we live in a society where people are not getting the necessary amounts of nutrients and vitamins that we should really be getting. Omega-3s are one such substance that we have been neglecting to supply our body with. While there are plenty of companies that sell this as a supplement, it is also possible to find this in foods such as fish. Top Rated Products may also contain ingredients such as this one to diversify their benefits.

If you are looking to improve your overall health, this would be just the thing for you. However if weight loss is your goal, you would do better to re-evaluate the products that you are looking to consume. There are many great ways that this substance may benefit you, however weight loss is not one of them.
