Forskolin Review – Does it Really Work?
There’s been a lot of build up on the internet as well as the television about a flora root known as Forskolin. Television personalities such as Dr. Oz have recommended use of this substance, making declarations that it will assist people who are looking to rid themselves of excessive body mass. This has led to numerous products being produced with this ingredient, with sales reaching echelons that were until recently, not even thought of to be able to have been reached.
Despite this, growing up my parents told me not to believe everything I heard on the television. More recently Dr. Oz has made this plant root much more well known, with allegations that it may aid in weight management. Currently there are many products that contain Forskolin within their ingredient lineup, although this substance can be found by itself in supplement form as well. In addition to weight loss, this substance has also been known as a remedy for angina, hypertension, urinary tract infections and eczema.
Forskolin is asserted to arouse the cAMP into action, which is known to affect the thyroid, as well as making the heart contract. When this happens, fat and calorie deposits start to get incinerated. So with this theory in mind, this flora root is retailed to aid people in dropping a few pounds off from their body.
Studies however have shown that Forskolin is not really all that efficient in meeting this end (more on that below.)

If administered in the proper way, there is potential for this ingredient to aid in weight management. However the correct way to take this supplement is either through inhalation or intravenously. When it is taken orally (as it usually comes in diet pills) the effects are not known to be existent.
There was a study done on Forskolin, in which there were 15 overweight men who took the substance for a duration of 12 weeks. Improvements that they did see were a reduction in fat mass, a heightening of testosterone levels and a noticeable sinking in body fat percentage. However weight loss did not occur.
Despite this, that hasn’t stopped the likes of Dr. Oz and other diet pill companies as marking this substance as a dynamic aid for weight loss. It is misleading to say so, but what they do is word their marketing copy in a certain way so as to make it seem like this may do something that it really doesn’t. However, the relation is enough to get people to buy it and to the people who make money selling this, that’s all that matters.

When taken intravenously, it is administered by medical professionals. As an inhalant, it is also used with the direction of medical experts.
If taken orally, the usual amount is in 250 mg increments that are taken twice daily.
Forskolin is not a substance that is free of the cost of side effects. Because it is known to sink blood pressure levels, there is some risk that people may experience hypogylcemic symptoms. There is also evidence that has shown that administering this flora root may result in a halting in fetal growth in pregnant women. As for women who are nursing, there have not been enough clinical trials done to show if this is safe or not, so it would be best to avoid this altogether.
When taken intravenously, there are risks of hypoglycemia and flushing of the skin. If inhaled, this may cause tremors, throat irritation and anxiety.
Additionally, there is also cause for concern that this may exacerbate problems for people who are undergoing surgery or who have bleeding disorders.
There have also been reports that this may cause irritation in the eyes if used as an eye drop.
There are a lot of substances out there that diet pill companies like to add to their products. There is no doubt that some of these substances are beneficial for not only overall health, but supporting weight management as well. While there are some medicinal uses for this plant root, people won’t be dropping weight with this any time soon.
It’s always important to do your own research when looking into health supplements. It’s easy to take a company’s word for it, but you need to realize that their goal is to make money, not necessarily get you healthier, as they may declare. As with this substance there has been some studies done on it, but just because a study was done, doesn’t mean it has the right results. There are better supplements out there that have more relevant results from the clinical trials performed on them.
