Contrave Review – The Truth About This Product.

You may have heard about this product over the years, about how it’s been going in and out of trials with the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), only to get rejected, then put back up again. As such, it has probably gained some level of notoriety from people who are in the vogue with the weight management world. Diet pills such as Contrave don’t usually experience an expulsion, only to be revived at some later point in time. Well now in the year 2024 the drug has finally been approved by the government body and is available with a physician’s prescription.

While other products may market themselves towards people that are trying to get trim for a beach body, or athletes that are in some form of competition, Contrave instead drives its sales force towards people who are obese and need to lose weight due to health related issues.

So can this product really get people to lose weight and change their lifestyle habits? The answer to this is found below.

Contrave is an FDA approved, prescription based blend of two separate substances,  bupropion HCl and naltrexone HCl with the intent of aiding overweight people reach a more reasonable level of weight. The product retails itself to individuals with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of generally anywhere from 27 to 30, and who also suffer from an ailment that is weight related (type 2 diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol.) The point of this product is not only for people to abandon this unwanted excess of pounds, but to make sure it doesn’t at any later point return.

While the website does make mention that taking Contrave may help obese individuals drop weight, at no point on the official website is there any information as to how the diet pill will go about doing this. Is it through thermogenesis? Accelerating metabolism? Supercharging energy reserves? Roasting calories from the body? It’s never specified.

It is true that there are studies provided that show that this may help some people lose weight, but I couldn’t find exactly where these studies were sourced, who did them and what scientific journals they were published in. We know that the FDA approved the diet pills, but I would still like to see the proof of these pills competency.

While it may seem that this product could possibly have people dropping pounds from their frames, the extended list of side effects is concerning to me (more on this below.) Because of this I cannot in good conscious recommend this product.

Contrave Ingredients and Dosage

During the first week, users are instructed to take a single tablet of Contrave in the morning. The second week includes a second tablet taken at night. During the third week two tablets are taken in the morning and one at night. On the fourth week (and for the rest of the duration taking the pill) users take two tablets in the morning, then two later at night.

Additionally users are informed not to tamper with the tablets in any way and to only swallow them. No more than two tablets should be taken in either the morning or night. If the user does not see any results in 16 weeks, their physician is to stop them from taking the medication.

Are there potential side effects?

I found it a bit concerning that one of the first things you see on the Contrave website homepage is a warning about side effects. However, not everything that this drugs may do is severe. More commonplace adverse reactions include: Headache, xerostomia, sleep disturbances, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness and constipation.

Despite this, there are more serious adverse reactions that may be experienced. So serious, that the company decided to put these as one of the first things you see on the official website’s homepage! They are: Irritability, insomnia, mania, acting on dangerous impulses, aggression, violence, suicidal thoughts and other very noticeable changes in behavior and state of mind. The suicidal thoughts in particular may be attributed to the ingredient bupropion.

Seizures are another adverse reaction that may happen if the user eats foods high in fat while taking this product. If the user drinks a lot of alcohol and stops, this medication may heighten the risk of seizures as well.

Conclusion

While the FDA may have approved this concoction, the list of potential side effects I find to be very worrisome. To me it seems like the potential for bad things to happen is much too high. I can’t help but wonder, is this really worth it?

It almost seems like a rhetorical question when I break it down: If weight loss meant risking your health and mental well being in a wide variety of ways, would you still use a product that could negatively affect you so? The answer may vary with everyone, but for me, my recommendation is to try other products that are safer.
